PSG Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Claim French Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the prestigious cup on 14 separate occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the match featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to seize a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the dying moments to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing shootout win.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
