The highly-awaited second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel debuts on the streaming platform this week, and audience theories has been rampant.
Season 1 presents a large cast of characters residing in the afterlife, sets them at odds with songs about their clashes, and builds tense rivalries and emotional bonds that drive fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 differ greatly, but certain threads recur frequently: Could Angel Dust escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't produce the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the showrunner stated earlier this year. "However I feel like me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by the production companies, which produce the series.
That could imply fans have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how fast the new season progresses, and how much of what they're waiting for unfolds now.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some incredible disclosures, some really cool origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — especially in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a few fans create a bingo card about season 2," she says. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've actually done some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on the streaming service on Oct. 29.
