Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in strength within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure are included.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to begin their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.

That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

First, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, invading the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then cleared his debts and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could enable the team access places they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter swore a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The cleric defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them few options but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Questers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can look forward to learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
